Kim Pretto has asked for assistance in getting members to donate platelets. Past District Governor Chuck Pretto has been fighting cancer and is using them and there is a shortage.
Interested platelet donors should contact the Blood Bank of San Diego or the American Red Cross to schedule a donation. Please make sure you tell them you are donating on Chuck's behalf.
The process of donation typically takes 2-3 hours. It involves drawing blood, separating platelets and returning the remaining components to the donor through an automated collection device. The actual platelet donation itself usually lasts around 90 to 120 minutes. Keep in mind that specific procedures might vary depending on the donation center or organization.
