July in Rotary is Maternal and Child Health Month, a theme that speaks to our shared humanity and reminds us of the delicate, sacred beginnings of life.
It’s about ensuring that every mother has the support she needs to survive and thrive. That every child has the chance to grow up safe, healthy, and full of promise. It’s about giving families, no matter where they live, a fair chance at a future filled with dignity, joy, and hope.
But this isn’t just a global initiative. It’s a deeply local one. Right here in District 5340, across San Diego and Imperial Valley Counties, there are mothers in our neighborhoods facing food insecurity. Children whose only meals are at school. Families sleeping in shelters, in cars, or on couches. And globally, we know that millions still lack access to prenatal care, clean water, or basic medical support.
So what do we do?
We reflect. We listen. We act.
This is a Rotary moment. A month to do more than wear a theme, it’s a month to live it.
- Could your club host a diaper drive or partner with a women’s shelter?
- Could you support a nonprofit helping refugee or immigrant families?
- Could you donate to a Global Grant focused on reducing maternal mortality?
Even the smallest gesture — a blanket for a newborn, a note of encouragement to a struggling mother is an act of service. A ripple of love.
