January is Vocational Service Month

Each year, Rotary International dedicates the month of January to celebrate the importance of vocational service—a core tenet of Rotary’s mission. Vocational Month is a time for Rotarians to reflect on the role of their professions in shaping communities and to recommit to using their skills, knowledge, and ethical practices to make a positive difference in the world.

Vocational Service is simply the idea that we bring the Ideal of Service into our professions valuing every occupation, practicing integrity, and using what we know to help others. And this month is a perfect time to ask: How can my skills make a difference?

There are so many simple ways to get started. Host a career day for local students. Offer a resume or interview workshop. Start a mentorship circle for young professionals. Partner with a nonprofit and share pro bono expertise whether that’s business advice, tech help, financial guidance, or trades experience. Even a short classification talk at your club can spark ideas and inspire someone else.

Vocational Service reminds us that who we are and what we do every day matters and that our professions can be incredible tools for good.

Thank you for bringing your talents to Rotary. When we share what we know, we truly Unite for Good, and invite everyone on the bus! Have a great start to the new year!
