Our Rotary District must select our next Council on Legislation representative within the next couple of weeks.

The District Representative is a voting member of the Council on Legislation and Councils on Resolutions. Each District selects one representative and an alternate representative. The term of the representative begins on July 1, 2020 or when a representative is selected. Each representative shall serve a term of three years or until a successor is selected and certified.

Candidate qualifications:
  • Member of club in the district represented;
  • Have served a full year as an RI Officer, District Governor, in the time of the election; and
  • Understand and be qualified, willing and able to perform the duties and responsibilities of a representative.
Duties include:
  • Assisting clubs in preparing  enactments and resolutions;
  • Discuss legislation at district conference and other district meetings;
  • Be knowledgeable about the attitudes of Rotarians within the district;
  • Consider carefully all legislation and resolutions presented to councils and effectively communicate their views to the councils;
  • Act as an objective legislator of RI;
  • Attend the meeting of the Council of Legislation for its full duration;
  • Participate in the Council on Resolutions; and
  • Report on Council deliberations to the clubs of the district.
The process has begun, with notification of Past District Governors of the opening. A Nominating Committee has been selected. Interested PDG’s are contacting IPDG Marta Knight of their interest in being considered for this position.

Ballots will be emailed to 2019-2020 Rotary year Club Presidents on Monday, July 20, 2020, with the names of the candidates and a short bio on each one. Information will be given on how many votes they get based on club size.  There will also be an option for nominating another PDG.

By July 28, 2020,  ballots signed by Club President and Secretary will be emailed back to the Nominating Committee.  The Nominating Committee will count the votes and finalize the selection of the representative and the alternate.

By July 30, 2020, IPDG Marta Knight will report the selection of the District's representative and alternate to Rotary International.

Please contact PDG, Janice Kurth or IPDG Marta Knight if you have any questions.
