The San Diego Rotary Club Foundation announced that it awarded a record-setting $575,000 in local and international grants in its fiscal year ending June 30.

The Foundation supports the work of the San Diego Rotary Club, the fourth largest Rotary Club in the world.  "We pride ourselves in providing our 500+ members unmatched opportunities to drive meaningful change at home and around the world," said Suzy Spafford, Chair of the San Diego Rotary Club Foundation.  "We're grateful not just to their financial contributions, but also for the tens of thousands of volunteer hours they devote toward executing these projects.  Collectively, San Diego Rotary connects the world!"

Grant recipients included:

  • $203,000 to support the community work of the Club's service committees.
  • $165,000 to support a Rotary-inspired hospital in Atiak, Uganda.
  • $50,000 in grants to local arts education non-profits.
  • $50,000 for the victims of the Paradise Fire.
  • $36,000 for the Club's annual Camp Enterprise benefitting San Diego High School juniors.
  • $35,000 in scholarship awards to underserved populations within San Diego County.
The Club's membership embodies the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self," added David Oates, President of the San Diego Rotary Club.  "Our members span four generations and represent a wonderfully diverse set of backgrounds and business sectors.  Together we create a rich network of passionate individuals that fuel weekly programs and drive community projects through our 55 committees.  Our impact extends practically everywhere!"
