Have you ever witnessed the District music contest?  If not, you are missing out.  This is a great opportunity for clubs to showcase their local student talent and changing lives through the power of music.

The purpose of the competition is to determine and recognize the high school age student contestant demonstrating District 5340's greatest level of excellence in talent, training and love for music. Students may compete in either Classical or Contemporary categories.

This year we will replace Regional Semi Finals with four Instrument Category Finals, one for each of the following categories: 1) Classical strings; 2) Classical winds and brass; 3) Classical piano and percussion; 4) Contemporary / Popular / Jazz / Traditional. Two winners will advance from each final to the Winners Celebration Concert, one the best student aged 16 or over on January 1, 2027 and one the most promising student aged under 16 on January 1, 2027.

Prize money will be awarded at each level of competition: District 5340 Club Contests, Category Final Contests, and at the District 5340 Winners Celebration Concert where two Grand Prizes of $1,000 each will be awarded, one for each age group.

If you have never entered musical talent from your local high schools, what a great opportunity awaits before you.

There are many ways that Rotarians can get involved:

· By holding a club music contest in February.

· By encouraging high school student musicians to participate in a club competition – we can match students to clubs if needed.

· By sponsoring the $200 District competition entry fee for a student who participates in a club competition – we can connect clubs that don’t organize their own competition to clubs that do.

· By attending the Instrument Finals in March and the Final Celebration Concert on April 17 as an audience member or volunteer.

Important dates:

Rotary Club Contest (first level) starts January 2027
Category Finals Contests will be held March 2027
Winners Celebration Concert will be held in April 2027
