It all began with one man's idea.  That man was Bob Watson, District 5340 District Governor 2006-2006.  His idea was to have the clubs in the district to coordinate their projects so that on one day (the last day of April) they would all have one or more community service projects. During his year, he championed this idea. District 9100 in Tijuana joined with District 5340 that first year. Rotarians in our district also worked to get other districts to adopt this idea.

In the ensuing years, Rotarians at Work has grown to be an idea that has been adopted in 2015-2016 by 43 districts involving over 2800 clubs and nearly 10,000 Rotarians around the world.  Rotary District 5340 is proud to be the place where this idea about serving our communities was born.

In this tenth year anniversary year,  District 5340 clubs again were active in their community doing hands-on projects.  The projects involved such things as: working on working to tend a large garden at a boy's academy, cleaning up a playground, building a shade structure at a therapeutic riding facility, and cleaning and organizing a toy storage area at Ronald McDonald House, a residence facility in support of families whose children are receiving treatment at the Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego.  These are just a few of the many projects District 5340 Rotarians accomplished this year. Rotarians worked hard for their communities and had fun doing it!
