For its first Rotary at Work Day project, the Rotary Club of Poway Scripps provided support to the Valley Elementary Educational Foundation, in support of their STEAM program. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) provides education to all students, knowing that opportunity and access are the first steps in building student curiosity and knowledge.

The Valley Elementary Educational Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, nonprofit organization, made up of Valley parents. Together, we are the fundraising arm of our children’s school — raising money to bridge the gap between what school districts can provide and what students need to have the best, most well-rounded education possible. The club is currently working to raise funds to convert the old computer lab space into an Innovation Lab where students can explore, create and discover the areas of Science, Technology, Art and Math.

The second project was at the Abraxas High School Garden in Poway.  They teach students about growing healthy food and giving back to the community by donating the produce to the people in their community that need it the most.  The club helped them clear another large area to be able to plant fruit trees.  They also helped with clean up and weed pulling in some existing garden areas.
