Rotary, Rotaract and Interact clubs can all participate in a one-day International Service project in Chula Vista on Saturday, April 24th.

For over 15 years, Gary Stemple has organized teams from Old Mission Rotary to fund and build houses with Project Mercy.

Project Mercy is a 501-C (3) nonprofit agency based in San Diego, California. Project Mercy builds basic but sturdy houses for the poorest families in the outlying neighborhoods, or “Colonias” of Tijuana, Mexico.

Project Mercy has scheduled a special spring construction event on a three acre site in Chula Vista. They are planning to ship pre-assembled housing components to Tijuana for final assembly into single family homes. In pre-pandemic times the houses would be built on site across the border.

The date for the project is Saturday, April 24th.

For your information, if a club cares to donate any amount of money towards this project, the cost of a house is $6,000 and a latrine is an additional $1,000. The cost to ship the house from Chula Vista to Tijuana is $500 for a total of $7,500 per house.
