On May 7, 2019, the Art Pratt Foundation of the Old Mission Rotary presented a grant of $5000 to the Friends of Balboa Park. The mission of the non-profit is to preserve Balboa Park's legacy for future generations through park-wide projects. Executive Director, John Bolthouse explained that the grant will be used to help restore the 1910 all-original Herschell-Spillman carousel. The carousel has been delighting generations since its permanent arrival in Balboa Park in 1922. The Friends of Balboa Park acquired this wonderful icon of the park in 2017 and is proud to be its steward for future generations.
