Torrey Pines Rotary Club met Wednesday, November 29, and held their bi-monthly meeting at the Sheraton La Jolla Hotel. The Club inducted their newest member of this nearly 60-year-old club.
 
The induction honors were conducted by PDG Karl Kruse. Dr. Merritt Hougen (Internal Medicine) spend 41 years at Scripps Clinic and was responsible for establishing the General Internal and Urgent Care facility at Scripps. Merritt was joined at the podium by his wife (Linne) and President Leilani Sakai, and PDG Karl Cruse (see photo).
 
It can be said of Torrey Pines Rotary Club that the Club is not only known as “the Wine Club” but can also boast that the Club has five members who hold doctorate degrees, a dentist, a medical doctor, and the Club’s oldest member, Max Gurney (Member Emeritus), 102+ years young, and a WWII veteran.
 
Also, Torrey Pines Rotary Club is very proud of its Club Foundation, which distributes thousands of dollars each year to support such causes as veterans, youth, education, international and national crises, the Club’s Care ‘N Share toy drive, and other community causes and organizations.
 
Torrey Pines Rotary Club will be celebrating its 60th anniversary this coming June 2024.
