Volunteers are desperately needed for this fun and important meal packaging event on September 12. This event is now open to friends and family over 18 years. Please sign up now on Givsum by purchasing a ticket online at: https://www.givsum.com/opportunities/sd-coastal-rotary-10-000-meal-packaging-event-532d9292c.

If you are unable to volunteer but would like to donate, you can also do this on Givsum. Any amount raised over the $3000 needed to purchase the food will be donated directly to the Outreach Program for future events.
Here are some details:

  • What: Packaging dry food (that can be made into quick and tasty full meals by adding water and heating) with The Outreach Program.
  • Where: The Southwest Yacht Club dining area in the Point Loma area.
  • When: Saturday, September 12.  You can sign up for one or both shifts (9-11:30am and 11am - 1:30pm).
  • Why:  Many people  are experiencing food insecurity due to economic downturn. These are easy to make, healthy meals that will be distributed safely and locally by San Diego Food Bank.
  • Who and how many: We need a minimum of about 60 Rotarians (30 each shift)  to package 10,000 meals (the minimum).
  • How much: To create 10,000 meals, it costs $3000. Each Rotary volunteer will donate $50 to join in. The price has been reduced  to $25 for Rotaractors.
  • What about the pandemic? Social distancing, excellent hand hygiene and face mask wearing will be mandatory.  Note the Outreach Program has already had several packaging events during the pandemic and have safety protocols in place. For any other questions, please contact Jenny Parker at jenny@jparkermd.net.
