The 2025 District 5340 Rotary Youth Instrumental Music Competition Finals took place on March 22 in Schulman Auditorium at Carlsbad City Library.  And what a beautiful concert it was!  More than sixty 14 to18 year old musicians competed throughout the district, in club contests sponsored by twelve participating clubs during the first two months of 2025.  Our six distinguished Grand Finalist musicians represented fully half of the district's twelve participating clubs this year.

Our $2000 Grand Prize Winner is violinist Ethan Zhou (sponsored by the Rancho Santa Fe Rotary Club), with Christina Grandinetti (sponsored by the San Marcos Rotary Club) placing second, performing on clarinet.  The remarkable variety of instruments and talents was a delight to hear and see, with stellar performances on flute, jazz piano, violin, clarinet and piano, followed by a saxophone performance by last year's Distinguished Finalist, Ben Curley.  RYIMC District Finals prize monies totaled nearly $5000 this year, subsidizing the studies and futures of six extraordinary young musicians.  District 5340 proudly supports today's youth as they become tomorrow's leaders, and we feel certain that we will be seeing these names in prominent artistic contexts in the coming years.
