Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary (CHNR) completed its first Scholarship Raffle on March 30, with the prize drawing on Monday, April 4.  Karen Antonio, a CHNR scholarship recipient from 2021 and now a student at Cal State University San Marcos, was present to pick the winning raffle tickets.

Carlsbad HI-Noon Rotary, has, for the past 25 years, provided hundreds of thousands of dollars for scholarships to college/university bound Carlsbad high school students.  Those funds were generated by major events.  This year, however, those events were cancelled or reduced (due to Covid) and options were discussed to make sure funds were available for scholarships.  The club decided to expand the scholarship offerings beyond colleges, to students interested in trade and technical schools as well.  The application deadline for all scholarships was March 30, 2022.

The Scholarship Raffle was a success meeting its goal! At the CHNR meeting, Karen Antonio, picked the winners of the four raffle prizes:

  • 1st prize - $5,000 to Jane Johnson;
  • 2nd prize – a week at a condo on the beach for six people went to Nate Cobb;
  • 3rd prize – an elegant wine basket with a $1,000 value was won by Karen Stoner; and
  • 4th prize – a new television and gift certificates worth $500 went to Elaine Sullivan.
