The Chula Vista Sunrise Rotary Club is pleased to present the 39th Annual Orange Crate Derby on August 17-18. The race is run on Rancho del Ray Parkway and Del Way Blvd. in Chula Vista. Children, ages ranging from 7-14 years, will speed down the race course in their gravity-powered cars. Made totally from wood and a brake made from a tire, many of these cars have been passed down from racer to racer over the years. Registration closed on August 9, but plan on coming out to visit this fun family event. Practice day is Saturday, August 17. Racers will have their cars inspected and be able to make practice runs. The race competition takes place on Sunday, August 18 beginning with an opening ceremony at 8:00 am. There are two adult-sized cars and special tickets are offered for a $10 donation to race down the course.
