History of Rotarians at Work Day.

In 1911, Rotarians adopted the motto "Service Above Self."  Past RI President Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar, selected “Service Above Self” as the theme for 2005-2006.  Through the vision of Past District 5340 Governor Bob Watson 2005-06, every Rotarian in the world had the opportunity to renew our commitment to this timeless message of compassion and generosity of spirit by participating in Rotarians At Work Day.

The first Rotarians at Work Day was on April 29, 2006.  60 clubs within District 5340 came forward and identified one or more projects that they performed. Many clubs partnered with other clubs including those in Mexico in District 4100, and nearly all of the clubs integrated other groups to assist such as Rotaract Clubs and Interact Clubs. Rotarians planted trees and performed much-needed maintenance to our communities’ highways, senior centers, a variety of public buildings such as schools, and parks.  All in one day!

Today, Rotarians at Work Day is a Rotary International initiative spanning the globe.  Not every District does it on the same day, but Rotarians can be seen globally wearing their Rotarians at Work shirts while performing service in their communities.  This year, District 5340 is conducting its Rotarians at Work Day, April 27, 2024.

The Rotary 5340 District Military Coordinating Committee (DMCC) is proud to be sponsoring the inaugural “Operation Flags for Vets” at Miramar National Cemetery this Memorial Day weekend. In cooperation with the cemetery administration, members of Rotary District 5340 will be placing a small American flag at every gravesite to honor our fallen heroes. This effort is one that the cemetery has no funding or personnel to complete so they are excited to welcome Rotary to what will be a long-term commitment.  Click "Read More" for more information and how to sign up yourself or your club to help participate.

To volunteer go to our new website rotarydistrict5340dmcc.com/volunteer.  Operation Flags for Vets dates are listed in “Upcoming Events” for additional details.

We all know that Rotary clubs everywhere struggle with attracting and retaining membership.  Rotary Zones 26 and 27 are hosting a Zoom workshop to help clubs achieve their membership goals. Click this link to registrar for the Zoon link that applies to the date you choose to participate.   Don't miss out on key discussions and insights that will help your club succeed.
Rotary is where individuals come together to change the world for good.

With over 1.2 million members across the globe, Rotary is the place where business and civic leaders come to share ideas, connect, and get inspired.
Rotary members are people of action, dedicated to sustainable, impactful change in the communities in which they live and work.
