From the La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club  4/1/08

Bill Bodry is an excellent speaker, a member of La Mesa Sunrise Rotary, and very active in the community.
Bill has a special understanding of his clients since he operates from a wheelchair due to an auto accident.
The CHALLENGE CENTER founded by Bill Bodry in 1987, to fill a gap in health care for persons who have experienced a stroke, spinal cord or brain injury, MS, or countless other neurological/orthopedic conditions. They assumed then, what is now scientific fact, that the central nervous system can make recoveries of function following traumatic illness or injury.
Operating out of the old Chargers training camp in La Mesa Ca, this 5000 square foot gym provides physical therapy/fitness on a sliding fee scale to insure affordability to all who would apply. There are no hard figures on how many are living with the residual deficits of long term disability, that are assumed to be permanent. We are now armed with recent discoveries in neuroplasticity and we are challenging those assumptions, more often then not, successfully!
Bill has devoted 21 years to this cause and serves as a model for those who frequent the Challenge Center.

As an adding feature, Mr. Iszak has a very interesting and inspiring personal history to share as an immigrant from an Eastern block country.

"60 million Americans suffer from headaches and a variety of face and body pains on a daily basis, and pain medications are a costly and understated problem within the U.S. population. Is this a disease related problem or a problem that is the result of the "American lifestyle?" In our society, most patients seek medications to relieve their headaches, while ignoring the fact that 80-90% of their discomfort is "self inflicted" and under their own control.
Dr. Tanaka was the Director of "Pain Clinics" at the UCSD Medical Center and USC School of Dentistry for over 30 years and will provide a simple explanation of the most common headaches and also practical ways to manage them with and without medications.
Terry Tanaka, DDS is a Clinical Professor at the University of Southern California, School of Dentistry, in Advanced Dental Education, and was Clinical Associate Professor at the UCSD School of Medicine. He practices with his Rotarian daughter, Dr. Katherine Tanaka in Chula Vista, California and is an Honorary Member of the National City Rotary Club.

Jennifer Yeast - Volunteer doula (childbirth assistant) program at UCSD Medical Center, Hillcrest. Volunteers, all women, work with other women during their labor and delivery. The volunteer doulas are not medically trained, but rather are there to provide physical and emotional support to the laboring moms. There have been a number of studies showing improved medical and emotional outcomes for women and babies who have a doula present at their labor. We are one of the largest hospital-based volunteer doula programs in the country, we work with about 35 women a month, many of whom are low income, and our services are free and offered to any woman who comes to UCSD to have her baby.
