From the Poway Rotary Club 2/1/08

Based on his book "Going Solar: A Homeowner’s Experience," Robert has produced a presentation describing why he decided to invest in a solar system, how he determined the appropriate system size, how he found qualified installers, how he requested, received, and evaluated proposals from solar system vendors, the installation process (with color photos), how he funded the project, the rebate and tax credit that he received, and the actual electrical cost savings realized after 12 months of solar system operation. In his presentation, he describes the tangible benefits of going solar — reduced electric bills, increased home value, and less need for carbon dioxide emissions by the local utility company. He is doing his part to keep the air we breathe clean and fresh. Now he wants to share his experience with others.

Living with Wildfires, Nature, and Climate Change"
Learn how we are “between wildfires” in San Diego, and how local plants and animals are adapted to wildfires. Learn the importance of preparing for the next wildfire, including evacuation, building codes and retrofit, landscaping, and defensible space. Learn how wildfires are likely to increase with climate change, and how local biodiversity may be lost. Presentation is a cooperative effort of the San Diego Natural History Museum, and Business and Ecology Consulting.

Joe Sigurdson
Subject: A novel, and dramatic instructional and mentoring program for adolescent boys ages 11-15 who have no positive male role model, and who are looking for support at this difficult time of life. Assists include an introductory, dramatic program on Palomar Mountain, centered about the stories of King Arthur and his Knights. The program is designed to talk about "things of the heart and of living", quality things, about which single parent families seem unlikely to discuss in a positive, ongoing manner. This program continues, with a mentor to see each lad once a week, and with bi-weekly get-togethers of the entire group. Boys To Men began in San Diego nine years ago, and now has 12 chapters across the USA. It is a very strong program, and is highly recommended by the single parents/families.
