Prof. Nancy Carol Carter, USD, DIrector of the Legal Research
Center and Prof. of Law at USD. Her legal specialization is
American Indian Law and she has published extensively on the law
and literature of the field. Carter created and maintains the
Univ. of SD Native American Web site which chronicles events
affecting the original inhabitants of San Diego County and

From the La Mesa Sunrise Club: 10/1/04 Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of La Mesa Sunrise and the Chairman of the Districts Iraq Task Force.
An Iraqi-American by heritage and has
traveled to Iraq many times, most recently last November. An expert on
Iraqi culture and America's current involvement in Iraq. Perspective
on Iraq is radically different than what is portrayed in the media.
From the La Mesa Sunrise Club: 2/2/04:
These gentlemen (Rotarians) have spoken to several
clubs and were presenters at the District Peace Dialogue on November
19, 2003. They are both active participants on the ongoing district
Dialogue on Peace Committee.
From the La Mesa Sunrise Club 9/1/03:
Judy Bernstein, and members of Lost Boys of Sudan
from International Rescue Committee. "The Lost Boys of Sudan." - In
1985, because the south Sudan people refused to change their
religious practice and belief, the northern, government armies
invaded the southern Sudan, destroyed the villages and crops,
murdered the fathers, and took the mothers and daughters to
northern, government Sudan as slaves and consorts. About 18,000
young boys, ages 5-8, pre-school, were told by their dying parents
to run, and run they did- all over northeast Africa, looking for a
home, and refused by all countries. In 1992, the 12,000 still alive
were allowed to stop in a refugee camp in Kenya, but had to stay in
the camp; Kenya did not want them. They boys cared for each other,
like little parents, and attended school, on survival rations, and
learned English, French, math, etc. In 1999, the US government said
that enough is enough, and began to import some 3,200 to the USA.
There are 100 in San Diego. Amazingly, these boys, now in their
early 20's, are described as "sweet, gentle, thankful, considerate,
eager for education in school and in our culture". Amazingly, they
communicate in a most personal and warm way. Although they had their
families, futures, and country ripped away from them, they are
healthy survivors, here, and very fine people, with well defined
sense of right and wrong, and a strong ethical-religious modus
vivandi. I and other Rotarians wish to start a Rotaract Club for and
with these Boys, and we need to establish connections, and to have
the Boys see how our culture operates: they had never seen even a
telephone before they came here. Please schedule Judy to talk.
