Jim
Vernetti
Coronado Rotary Club
Dr.
James P. (Jim) Vernetti, DDS, retired Coronado Rotary Past
President passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, March
31, 2007, after a long battle with cancer. He was a Past
President and one of the founders of the Thousand Smiles
Foundation. He worked for the foundation tirelessly;
speaking, fundraising, and doing whatever he could in the
clinic with the children. He was an active Rotarian for over
50 years, and prided himself that he had perfect attendance
for all those years. He received many awards over the span
of his career; one of the latest being Rotary
International's Service Above Self Award, Rotary's highest
honor for individual Rotarians. He was honored to carry the
Olympic Torch when it came to San Diego through Coronado
several years ago. He was instrumental in bringing Little
League Baseball to Coronado. So they named the baseball park
for him.
He
was an amazing Rotarian, Dentist, Speaker, UCLA Professor,
Husband, Father, Grandfather, and good friend to all who
knew him. He will be sorely missed. |

Rolling
Readers USA is proud to offer this very special
volunteer opportunity to the members of Rotary District
5340. Teams of four volunteers are invited to take turns
reading a story to the same group of children once a week
through the school year. Share your love of literacy with a
class of deserving preschool-6th grade students.
This
effort is coordinated by Marge Cole, Mission Valley Rotary
Club. |

San
Diego Adults Need Vaccines Too! |
|
From
your District 5340 Don't Wait Vaccinate Committee
Did
you know that...
-
Pneumonia and influenza together are the 5th leading cause
of death among older adults.
-
One out of three San Diego adults is inadequately immunized
against tetanus and diphtheria.
-
If rubella (German measles) occurs during pregnancy, it can
result in severe birth defects, miscarriages, and
stillbirths. Those born 1957-67 may have missed both disease
and shots.
-
Hepathitis B infects about 1000-2000 San Diegans each year,
with most new cases among young adults. Hepatitis B can
result in cirrhosis and liver cancer.
The
good news...
-
There are vaccines that can protect you and those close to
you from these and other diseases.
-
Today's vaccines are among the safest medecine available.
Check
with your doctor or clinic to see what vaccines you need to
stay healthy and prevent disease.
For
more information about adult immunizations in San Diego
County visit the San
Diego County Immunization Initiative web page, or the C.H.I.P.

immunization resources. For local information on adult
vaccines call toll free 1-877-358-0202. |
