Issue 21

Dear Rotary Leaders,

RI Board Decision
Having the Rotary Year run from July 1 to June 30 is causing a lot of confusion. Therefore, the RI Board of Directors decided at its last meeting to have the Rotary Year run with the calendar year from January 1 to December 31, starting on January 1, 2008. To bridge the gap, the 2006-07 Rotary leadership is asked to serve an extra 6 months in their current leadership positions. The current 2007-08 leadership will take office on January 1, 2008 instead of July 1, 2007.

Bringing in Younger Members
Rotary wants to be perceived as a service club with younger members. In order to achieve that, we are asking the club secretaries to automatically add 5 years to the birth year of every future new member. This way the calculated average age of the club members will be significantly lower. Since this would be unfair to the current older members we ask that over the next 12 months all the older members resign from their club and rejoin straight away, with a modified birth year. Women are allowed to do this twice.

The Rotary Foundation goes to Euros
Starting on July 1, 2007, The Paul Harris Fellowship recognition level will be set at 1,000 Euros instead of $1,000. Because of the exchange rate ($1.3 to the Euro), this measure is expected to raise an additional 30% for The Rotary Foundation in the long run. Members with a current recognition level of $1,000 to $1,299 will be asked to mail back their certificate, medal and pin to The Rotary Foundation, or send a check for the missing amount.

What's going on?
If you are not laughing out loud when you reach this, you have been fooled! Please forgive me for the April Fool's fabulations in this issue of Leadership Pathways. Remember rule #1: Have Fun! (and therefore signup for the District Conference, we will have plenty of fun over there)
