Issue 20

Dear Rotary Leaders,

Youth Protection Training at District Assembly
The District Assembly is coming this Saturday, March 24. Please take a minute to make sure that your club will be represented by your Youth Protection Officer. According to the new District Youth Protection Policy, having somebody from your club at one of the 2 Youth Protection classes at District Assembly is mandatory to ensure that you club can participate to the Youth programs next year. The "Youth Protection Officer" is a new position that has been added to the 2007-08 club leadership pages in the online directory.

District Conference Alternate Hotel
You may have heard that the Official District Conference Hotel (Hotel Coral and Marina) is sold out. We have now taken a new block of 25 rooms at an alternate hotel in downtown Ensenada. This is the Hotel Posada del Rey Sol, with rates of $60 per night plus 12% tax. This hotel is at a short drive to the Conference Hotel, and we will organize some shuttle service for your convenience. You can continue to register online for the Conference. Check out www.Rotary5340.org/conference07 for more information on the hotel, FAQs, and conference flyer. We will also add a summary of the Conference program very soon.

Alumni Association Official Charter
RI is now presenting Charter Certificates to the 40 existing Alumni Associations worldwide. There are only 2 of these associations in the US, and one of them is in our District! It has been in existence for the last 6 years, possibly one of the first in the world! Congratulations to the Alumni Association Chairs Bill Stumbaugh and David Detwiler for making sure we were included in this first charter batch.
Alumni of the Rotary Foundation are past Ambassadorial Scholars, past GSE Team Members, past resipients of Grants for University Teachers and Rotary Volunteers.

TRF Donations numbers
I just published the latest TRF Donation Report on the District website. Comparing it to last year's Annual Giving numbers at the same date, we are behind by $2,000 only out of $340,000! Time to make an extra push to finish the year with record breaking numbers!

Leftover International Service Funds?
Do you have any leftover International Service funds for 2006-07? Contact me urgently if you would like to use them for Matching Grants. We still have a few projects looking for funding that we can still send in this year, including one project in India being pushed by Rotary International President-Elect Wilf Wilkinson.

Rotarians At Work Website
We now have 51 projects listed on the Rotarians At Work website, for a total of 1520 volunteers. I know we will have even more than that on April 28, so keep entering your projects on the website (make sure there are no duplicates for your own club). Some clubs are grouped together on projects, making it more difficult to enter their project on the website. To make it easier on all of us trying to track down the club projects I would ask that each club creates their own page and list their own contact information and number of volunteers. Do not try to count the volunteers from the other clubs or we might end up with volunteers being counted multiple times. You can add to the project description that the project is done in collaboration with other clubs, and you can point to the other project pages. Contact Rotarians At Work chair Jim Roth if you are not sure how to publish your project or make updates to your existing page.
