Issue 19

Dear Rotary Leaders,

District Assembly Registration
Don't forget to Register for the District Assembly on March 24. We have added a document to describe the various classes and help you to make a choice. This is DGE Jim O'Meara's training for the 2007-08 Club Leadership. Everybody is welcome to attend, including new members.

DC Registration
Somebody asked me at PETS if the May 2007 District Conference should be for this year's leadership or for the 2007-08 leadership. My response was easy: it is for both! The 2006-07 (Lead the Way!) leadership should motivate their club members to attend the conference as a celebration of the accomplishments of the year. The 2007-08 (Rotary Shares) leadership should also go the conference with an opportunity to exchange ideas with leaders from other clubs. But this is also an opportunity to spend some quality time with your board members over the weekend, instead of just 90 minutes a week. In other words, motivate the key people in your club to attend the conference, this will be benefical to all of us.
Thursday is the deadline to get the discount rate on the full registration package! So register now! You also need to hurry to make your hotel reservation. The rooms are going fast and will be sold out soon! Once the hotel is full, attendees will need to book a room at a nearby hotel, and it will not be as convenient as being in the same hotel.

TRF Recognition Points Raffle
Do you have a pile of TRF Recognition points around, either from your Club, or from members who do not know what to do with them? Raffle them off! Sell some tickets at $10 or $20, then pull a winning ticket and give the full credit (money raised plus recognition points) to the lucky winner. This way you will have used them to raise even more money for The Rotary Foundation.

District Goals
About 2/3 of the way through the Rotary Year, let me do a quick review of my District Goals for the year.
1. Promote the Rotary Clubs in the District: I believe the District has provided great support to the clubs this year.
2. Promote the theme and emphases of Rotary International President Bill Boyd: A lot of these have been covered by the many international projects in the district.
3. Membership: this one is a tough one. For the first time this year the RI reports are showing a loss of membership in our District. The charter of the La Jolla New Generations club will give is a boost, but we still need to have all the clubs focus on membership for the rest of the year.
4. Annual Giving: The goal was $440,000. We are at $340,000 right now, so we are on good tracks... but we must not fall asleep for the rest of the year...
5. Restricted Giving: The goal was to be #1 in the world for Matching Grants (again). We are currently at $215,000. Last year we were #1 with $460,000. Some other districts might try to catch up with us, so we need to keep doing these Matching Grants and send the money in before the end of the year.
6. Club Websites: 100% of clubs now have a website. Goal achieved!
7. Presidential Citations: 40 of 60 clubs receive the Presidential Citation. We have only received one application so far. Keep these coming to the District Office!

RI Convention signup deadline
Another Deadline approaching fast: the registration fee for the Salt Lake City International Convention. On March 31, the registration fee will go from $315 to $355. So if you are planning to go, register now!

Presidential Membership Conferences
To promote membership growth, RI President-elect Wilfrid J. Wilkinson is organizing some Presidential Membership Conferences about sharing the magic of Rotary. The conference nearest to us will be held in San Jose on August 17-18, 2007. This will be an evening reception followed by a one-day meeting. See flyer for more information.

Rotarians At Work
Rotarians At Work Day
is coming on April 28. We now have 22 projects registered on the Rotarians At Work website. I know there are many more than that! Don't wait to register your project! You will be able to update your page later to add more information. Please use the "Project Description" field to give all the information about the project, what will be done, directions, what to wear, what to bring, number of people expected, etc. You can then link to this page from your own club website so that everybody gets the information.
