Issue 17

Dear Rotary Leaders,

Feb 13 District Council
The theme for this upcoming District Council is Wine Tasting, so if you have a District Leadership Tastevin, this is the time to bring it and wear it! This event is sold out with 280 attendees.

District Conference Registration
The registration website for the District Conference is now up and running at www.Rotary5340.org/conference07. The Conference will be held in Ensenada on May 18-20, 2007. Check out the website for more information and to watch the famous conference trailer in streaming video!

Happiness in Africa Poem
Speaking of video, I released on the District Website a new version of the Happiness in Africa Poem in streaming video. I recorded a short introduction similar to the live presentations I did to all the clubs, followed by the poem, and the closing by Past Rotary International President Cliff Dochterman. If you missed my official club visit you can catch up by watching this video!

2007-08 GSE Team Leader Selected
Larry Sundram
of the Rotary Club of Vista was selected to lead the 2007-08 GSE Team to India in late Dec 2007 until late January 2008. This will be a univocational team of teachers, and we are looking for non-Rotarian applicants to be team members. Applications need to be sent to the District office and the interviews will be held on March 31.

Running Club Meetings
We are more than half way through the year, and you must now be able to perform your duties with your eyes closed. For Club Presidents running their meeting I would ask that you focus during the rest of the year on 2 simple things:
1. Announce the upcoming Club and District events at all the meetings, and say a few things to promote these events. We need to keep repeating this information over and over again.
2. Introduce the VIP visitors attending your Club meetings, including the District Governor, District Governor Elect, District Governor Nominee, Past District Governors, and also the Assistant Governors. They are all spending a lot of time serving the District and they deserve the recognition.
I understand most of the clubs are already doing that, but I have attended some meetings recently where this was not done.

Your Club roster for hard copy distribution
The District now offers you the ability to provide a compact printed roster for your members with the same information that is on the District Directory (without pictures). All you have to do is send a request to Directory@rotary5340.org. You will receive the directory in Excel, formatted for printing, or on request, as a MS Word document. If you have questions or special requirements, send email to the same address. John Fistere of the La Mesa Rotary Club is helping us with this service.

2007-08 Theme
President-Elect Wilf Wilkinson unveiled the theme for the 2007-08 Rotary year at the International Assembly in San Diego: Rotary Shares! Click here to download the new graphic materials for next year.
