Issue 14
Dear Rotary Leaders,
Paul Harris Dinner Great Success
Many thanks to the event chair Trudy Armstrong for a great
event on November 11. We had 450 people attending and I got some
wonderful feedback from many people. We all enjoyed the food, the music,
the fanfares, la-la-la, etc. Next year's event under Jim O'Meara's
leadership will also be a sit-down dinner.
District Council
The next district event will be the
District
Council Dinner on December 12. The keynote speaker will be
firefighter-paramedic Brian Hinsley, speaking about organ
donations. He has a first class story to tell and I can tell you that
there won't be a dry eye in the room. Please make sure your club members
know about this great program. Go to the District website for information
about this program and registration.
District 5340 Matching Grants DAF
The District 5340 Matching Grants DAF is a Group Donor
Advised Fund with The Rotary Foundation. It was created to help the clubs
and Rotarians of District 5340 for the funding of Matching Grants and tax
deductions. The donations are tax
deductible like donations to a 501(c)(3) Foundation, and the
collected funds can be used later for Matching Grants with The Rotary
Foundation. It is a great way to park some money that has been raised for
a project while you wait for the project paperwork to go through and be
approved. For instance, it is used by the Mobilizing Rotarians for
Microcredit group to park the funds from various clubs for
microcredit project and get immediate tax deductions. When the
microcredit projects get approved we transfer the funds from the DAF to
The Rotary Foundation. You can contact me if you or your club would like
to use this DAF for your own projects.
District Leadership Meeting Minutes
There is a District Leadership Meeting for invited guests
before each District Council Dinner. If you would like to find out what
was discussed at these meetings, the minutes of these
meetings are now published on the district website on the
2006-07 Materials
page. This is a great way to stay posted on what is going on
throughout the District.
District Online Directory Updates
We are close to having 100%
of the Rotarians in the District listed in the
Online Directory.
We currently have 3,434 people listed. However we still have over 500
people listed without an email address, and over 1,000 without
a photo. On December 4, each person listed in the Online Directory
with an email address will receive a customized email with their
contact information, asking them to check that the information is valid.
The email will have the instructions to update the information if needed.
The Club Presidents, Presidents-Elect, Secretaries, and Internet Chairs
will also receive a summary email about their club, with the list of
people with missing email addresses and photos. If you have some data
waiting to be entered into the Online Directory for your club you might
want to do this before December 4 to benefit from this
update request mailing.
International Assembly Speakers
The International Assembly (training for District Governors
Elect) will be held in San Diego from January 28 to February 3,
2007. We will soon have some information on the District website
about various volunteer opportunities to interact with our international
visitors. In the meantime you might want to consider having one of the
Rotary VIPs as a guest speaker to your club, or joint group
of clubs. Your meeting will have to be relatively close to downtown
though. Please contact
PRID Ron Beaubien if you are interested.
Peace Symposium at the Salt Lake City Convention
A Rotary World Peace Symposium is slated for 14-16
June, just before the 2007 RI Convention kicks off in Salt Lake City. The
symposium will honor The Rotary Foundation's 90th anniversary celebration
and the 10th anniversary of the launch of the Rotary Centers for
International Studies in peace and conflict resolution.

registration fees.
Erratum
There was a typo in the email address for the Rotary Helpline
center in the last issue of the Leadership Pathways. The correct
email address is
contact.center@rotary.org
(the dot was missing).
