Dear Rotary Leaders,

In Memoriam - PDG Doyle Dannnenberg
We are deeply sorry to announce that Past District Governor O. Doyle Dannenberg passed away on September 21, 2006. He had 58 years of perfect attendance in Rotary. We have all lost a good friend and Rotarian. The services will be held Wednesday Sept 27th 2006 at 10 AM at the Bethel Baptist church located at 855 Brotherton Rd. Escondido, CA 92025. Check out the District home page for a photo and link to a North County Times article on Doyle.

Rotarian Magazine
District 5340 is once again very well represented in the Rotarian Magazine. Check out the October 2006 issue. On pages 18-19 there is an article on the Surf program for sick kids with the Encinitas-La Costa Rotary Club. On page 9 there is an article on Past Ambassadorial Scholar Dave Kellett who was sponsored by our District. Check out Dave Kellett's website at www.SheldonComics.com.

GSE Team to East Africa
The GSE Team going to East Africa next April/May will be a team of medical professionals headed by GSE Team Leader Beverly Sumwalt. The team members have also been selected and we just added their photos and bios on the District website. The incoming GSE Team will visit our District in May. This will be the first time we will have to organize visits in the medical field instead of schools. If you would like to be involved in the program, please contact the District GSE Chair, Dick Stevens.

Volunteers Needed
I need volunteers to help promote the Salt Lake City Convention in the District. I received tons of promotional materials including bracelets, pins, stickers, etc. This can be used at future district events to increase awareness about the Convention. Contact me if you would like to serve on that committee.

Youth Protection Policy
The minutes of the Sep 7 public hearing, and the latest version of the Youth Protection Policy have been published on the District website. I have asked Committee Chair Mike Stelman to collect the last batch of comments/feedback by email. Last chance to send us some input.
