Issue 10

Dear Rotary Leaders,

Promotion of Clubs events on calendar and Quickbits
Following up on last week's item on circularization, let me explain what can be done to do the promotion of your club events without breaking any rules...
1. Major club events like the annual fundraiser can be listed on the District Online Calendar. This is also a great way to check that there is no conflict for the date of your event with other clubs of district events. To have your event listed, please contact Dale Bailey at the District Office, District@Rotary5340.org.
2. You can announce your event in the Quickbits, with the following limitations:
- The description text must be written like a news announcement, not a solicitation.
- You cannot include the price of the event, you can only give a phone number of web page address to get more information.
- You can only make 2 Quickbit announcements per event, and no more than 3 club events per year.
See the Quickbits help page for additional information.
3. When visiting other clubs to announce your event at their club meeting, make sure you get the authorization from the Club President to make an announcement. In some clubs that may mean that your will have to pay a fine! Don't be upset if you don't get the authorization and don't push too hard to get it. It is up to each club to decide what is a priority for them.

Spam emails
It came to my attention that some of the email distribution lists for Club Presidents and Club Presidents-Elect came into the hands of spammers. Unfortunately I have no way to stop these. These email addresses are not listed anywhere on the website, so I don't know how spammers got hold of them. Probably by listening to email traffic. If we were to change the addresses it would be a pain for people to get used to the new addresses, and there would be no guarantee that spammers would not find them again. These addresses are used to send communications like this newsletter and it would hurt us more not to have them.

Health and Hunger Projects
The Zone Coordinator for the Health and Hunger Task Force would like to get some information on the status of what is being accomplished in Health and Hunger in the Zone. I will ask the club presidents to send me a quick note with the list of Health and Hunger projects they are involved in.

Youth Policy Meeting
There will be a forum for the Abuse and Harassment Prevention Policy at the District Office on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at 5:00 pm. The policy has been revised to reflect the many suggestions that have been made and it is posted on the District web site for all to review. Note that there have been some extensive changes since the last meeting. Please call Dale to make reservations for this forum if you wish to attend: 619-299-5341.

Oct 10 District Council Dinner
Registration for the October 10 District Council Dinner has been released. The guest speaker will be Col. Mike Walker, and he will speak about the Humanitarian Affairs Aspects of the war in Iraq. See link in the calendar below for registration.

Gifts for PHD raffle
We need additional gift items for the Paul Harris Dinner raffle. This is a great motivation for people to make additional donations to The Rotary Foundation. We would like to get these gifts early so that we can announce what they are and give some recognition to the donors. Please contact the event chair Trudy Armstrong for more information.

Volunteer for Directory Photos
I need a new volunteer to help upload the photos to the online directory. Needs to have the Photoshop software and know how to use it. Contact me if you know somebody who is willing to help with that.
