Issue 1
Dear Rotary Leaders,
First of all, Congratulations to the 2006-07
Club Presidents! You are now at the helm for one year, Leading
the Way for your club! I have no doubt that 2006-07 will be a
record-breaking year for the clubs in District 5340. Membership numbers,
and donations to The Rotary Foundation keep getting higher and higher,
and there is no reason to stop climbing!
The "Leadership Pathways" is an email newsletter that I
will send out throughout the year to the District Leadership. This
includes the Club Presidents, Assistant Governor, Past District
Governors, and the most significant committee chairs. The
"Quickbits" are sent to the general membership. The
"Leadership Pathways" is meant to communicate the latest
news and leadership tips so that you can be better leaders. I will try to
send it on a weekly basis, but I might skip a week here and there if
there is nothing to report.
The latest calendar of events is automatically added to
this email, so you can scroll to the bottom to see the upcoming events in
the District. I invite the club presidents to announce these events
at each and every meeting.
This will help to make sure the general membership is aware of these
events, and that they are getting registered in time. You can have a part
of your weekly agenda to review the upcoming events in chronological
order, and you can insert your club events in the list. Even if you only
mention the name of the event and the date, this is better than saying
nothing. You should never assume that everybody knows about
it.
You might have noticed that the date for the first District Council
Dinner has changed from earlier
versions of the calendar. Please make sure that your own calendar is
updated. The date is now August 1st, and the program will
be the Youth Exchange MusiCamp that we have in San Diego this
summer. This is a group of young musicians from all over the world, and
they will be with us from July 18 to August 9, to study with the San
Diego Youth Symphony. In addition to the District Council performance,
there will be some concerts on August 4 at the North Park Theater, and
August 5 at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido. If you want
more information, please contact Dan Malloy at
dfmalloy@cox.net, or check the
District online
calendar.

I was very pleased to see that we received the TRF Goal Reports
from all the clubs in the District. The total pledged amount comes to
$420,000. This is slightly less than the $440,000 that I estimated
in the goals I announced at PETS. I assume some of the clubs are being
over-cautious, considering that our annual giving for 2005-06 is over
$520,000, and restricted giving over $430,000, a record-breaking year!
Since the total giving for 2005-06 will be around $950,000, I believe
that we can have a new goal of $1,000,000 total giving for
2006-07!
Many of you were at District Council on June 27. I wanted
to thank my Chief of Staff Judy Gallegos, Chief Assistant Governor Russ
Hanthorn, the Assistant Governors, and everyone who was involved in this
surprise celebration for the start of the year. The berets and champagne
were a nice touch. What a way to get started!
Please register for the Membership Seminar on July 22.
Membership chair Mary Griffin has prepared a great program with lots of
information. Make sure at least one person from your club can attend.

I will get started on my round of Club Visits on July 19. The schedule is
published in the
online
calendar. Russ Hanthorn will be contacting the AGs soon to prepare
the visits.
Cheers to all, and Lead the Way! This year will be a lot of
fun!
