Model United Nations Program Finds a New Home at USD

Our District’s Pathways to Peace Committee presented the 5th Annual Model United Nations program this past weekend at the University of San Diego Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice.  Over 100 high school students and their advisors participated in this simulation of the United Nations by serving as delegate countries and dealing with actual resolutions from the UN in New York.  The Secretary-General role were students from Scripps Ranch High School who were able to manage the most spirited disputes and discussions as well as a late night “crisis” that happened during the delegates dinner.  Chairman Rob Mullaly, Del Mar Rotary Club, stated that “…this setting is the perfect location to instruct our students in peace and conflict resolution….”  Several of our Ambassadorial Scholars attended all or part of the conference and told students of their studies at the USD School of Peace Studies.  Our GSE Team from East Africa did a presentation for the Model UN-ers as well.  Thanks to the committee who worked so hard to put this together especially Chairman Rob; the Advisors who spent long hours getting the students ready to play the role of delegates, and to the Rotary Clubs who sponsored a Model UN team—it is a great investment in the future and the youth of our community.
