International Assembly
Information for District 5340 Host Rotarians

International Assembly Comes to San Diego

Every year in Januray or February the District Governors-Elect (DGE) and their partners attend the International Assembly in order to be trained for their role as officers of Rotary International. This is an intense 7-day seminar starting at 7:00 am and continuing until 10:00 pm most days. The DGEs are provided one afternoon and evening away from the grueling schedule and that is our opportunity to host them.

In addition to the DGEs, partners, trainers and Rotary International staff; past, present and future RI presidents, directors and Foundation trustees attend the International Assembly, roughly 1300 people. This is a tremendous opportunity for District 5340 to show itself to the Rotary World!!

We are being asked to volunteer our services to greet the DGEs and partners at the airport and Hotel and to organize host hospitality events. Please review the opportunities below and respond with your desire to be involved. If you have questions please email same to District@rotary5340.org.

Host Hospitality in District 5340

During the International Assembly, the Governors-Elect (DGE) are given one "free" afternoon and evening. Some of them take the time for rest. Many of them welcome the opportunity to meet local Rotarians and partners and develop international relationships. Rotarians from District 5340 have the unique and fulfilling opportunity to get to know these Rotarians and their partners from other parts of the world.

The hosting in 2009 is Thursday January 22. You as a host are responsible for transportation to and from the Manchester Grand Hyatt in Downtown San Diego and to provide a meal appropriate to the hours you are hosting. You may pick up your guest(s) as early at 4 pm. and return them no later than 10 PM. Crossing the Border is not allowed for fear of problems with US Immigration.

The hours that you host and how you entertain them is up to you. You can tour, take them to your home, a restaurant or to an event. You can join with other Rotarians in a group event. When and what you do is up to you, be creative, make it something our guests will look back on with fond memories of San Diego, its people and their Rotary experience.

To the extent that we are able, we will match your request for a specific Governor, District, Country or language. Be sure to note in the registration form any language you speak in addition to English.
