Medical
Oncology Nurse
Sponsor Club: La Jolla Golden Triangle
Beth
was born in Los Angeles, California and grew up in the
community of El Segundo. She has one older sister who has
provided ongoing support. As a young child, Beth thought she
wanted to be a veterinarian. However, she was inspired by her
mother who was a Registered Nurse, and grew up watching her
mother help those in need. When her mother passed away, Beth
knew that she wanted to become a nurse and be part of that
legacy.
Beth
received her Bachelor of Nursing Degree from San Diego State
University. Her third semester clinical rotation had a big
impact on her future. The nurses on the Medical Oncology floor
were truly amazing and their knowledge and kindness inspired
Beth to pursue an externship in that area of nursing care.
After graduating, Beth took a position with Scripps Memorial
Hospital, working as a professional in her chosen field along
side those same nurses who had inspired her.
While
she loves being an Oncology RN, Beth’s other passion is
travelingso the perfect combination is traveling to help
others. After Hurricane Katrina hit the United States
coastline, Beth had the opportunity to travel and help others.
She was part of the Scripps Medical Response Team that went to
Houston, Texas where she helped set up Disaster Relief Centers
to triage and care for the numerous survivors. She heard
amazing stories and met courageous people and knew she wanted
to do more. Beth is very excited to be part of the upcoming
Rotary GSE experience and is thankful she was chosen to be
part of the team headed for East Africa. |
