The
Foothills of the Himalayas
Dharamsala
is on the foothills of the Hymalayas, at an elevation of
6,000 feet. Therefore the weather is very cold in February.
There is no snow at this time in town, but the mountains
above all have a white cap. Today the sky is blue and the
sun is shining, and the view from here is incredible. I took
a walk and snapped tons of pictures!
Loss
of a Rotarian
On
a very sad note, one of the Rotarians from the Dharamsala
Rotary Club passed away last night. He had been a member for
three years and had been very active in the club. He had a
heart attack during the night. The body was cremated in the
afternoon, following the Hindu tradition. The body was
carried through town to the place for the cremation. Then
they stacked a pile of wood and set it on fire. The Rotary
Club members had made two rings of flowers, and the club
president placed one on top of the wood, and I was honored
to be asked to place the second one. In the morning, the
ashes will be taken by the family, and they will spread them
onto the holy river Ganges.
