Club 33 | Committees

Doing the work of Rotary begins in your committees

Furthering the work of Rotary in your community, your region or internationally happens in our committees. You have an enormous opportunity as a volunteer in Club 33 to become involved and active. It’s personally rewarding and great fun!

We have many levels of time commitments as well as different kinds of service to the club and community. We encourage you to join at least 2 committees and see what works best for you. Committee work is where you really get to know fellow Rotarians and share the fellowship that ties us all together.

With the information on our many committees in Club 33 shown at the right, you will be able to review each synopsis and see which ones are a fit for your personal interests. To become part of a committee, simply contact the chair via the email link to answer any questions you may have. Being part of a committee is the best way to get to know members, enjoy personal rewards and contribute to the success of Rotary.

Purpose: To foster world understanding by way of intercultural exchange of teenage students.

Activities/responsibilities: Long-Term Inbound Students: We choose a student from another country for our club to host for approximately 11 months. We then find three families, preferably in our club, to take these students into their homes for approximately three months. During the year we keep very close contact with our student, monitoring their school work and home life. The students attend Frances Parker School on a full scholarship from the school. We also have them as our guests in our own homes for short periods.
Long/Short-Term Outbound Students: We choose qualified students from our area to spend two weeks to 11 months in a foreign country. This summer we will have seven students going to different camps in Europe for at least two weeks. Our club is financially sponsoring six of these students. Therefore, another responsibility of our committee is to generate funds that are needed for this outbound program.
Summer Program: As the finale to the exchange student's nine-month stay, a Rotary-sponsored, one-month trip around the U.S. is offered. Between 40 and 90 students from all over the U.S. stay in San Diego for about 48 hours. During their stay here, it is our committee's responsibility to find homes for them. Volunteering your home for this weekend is an unbelievably fun adventure.

Why join: We are a small group and we need help. This is a wonderful way to get involved in our club and youth in an in-depth manner. You would be part of an effort to give qualified kids an intercultural experience that would be impossible without our help.
This is a committee that affords one the opportunity for in-depth experiences and relationships with teenagers from around the world.
