Cathy Anderson, President and CEO San Diego Film Commision
Brigantine Restaurant--13445 Poway Rd.
Ms. Anderson has earned a national reputation for developing programs to foster the growth of the production industry in the region, and making America’s Finest City “Hollywood South” for over 20 years. Anderson has worked tirelessly to create a business-friendly environment for the production industry in San Diego. In 2004, Anderson founded the non-profit San Diego Film Commission Foundation, which is dedicated to training future filmmakers, providing resources for San Diego freelancers, and raising greater public awareness of the local entertainment industry. Honored as one of the fifty people to watch in 1998 by San Diego Magazine, Anderson has been recognized twice by the San Diego Business Journal for a “Women Who Mean Business” award. In 2006, Cathy was selected as one of the 120 Influential People in San Diego by the San Diego Daily Transcript. Anderson is a Stockton, California native and received her BA in Theatre Arts and her MA in Telecommunications and Film from SDSU.

Vice Admiral Edward H. Martin, U.S. Navy (retired)

“Overcoming Adversity, Six Years as a POW and What America Means to Me”
A 1954 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Vice Admiral Martin was designated a Naval Aviator in 1955 and subsequently served in numerous carrier based squadrons in both the Pacific and Atlantic Fleets. While on a combat mission over North Vietnam on July 9th 1967, he was shot down near Hanoi by a surface-to-air missile and held there as a POW for nearly six years. Following repatriation in 1973, he rapidly resumed his career assuming multiple high level positions, until retiring from active duty in June 1989. He holds many awards and decorations such as The Distinguished Service Medal (two awards); the Silver Star;and Purple Heart(two awards. Late in 1991 he returned to his home in Coronado, CA where he is a private investor and president of E.H. Martin Associates, Incorporated. In addition to the U.S. Naval Academy, Admiral Martin is a graduate of the Naval War College, the National War College, and he holds an M.S. Degree in International Affairs from George Washington University. He is married and has three adult children.

Peggy is a Certified Financial Planner™ since 1983, and is an active member of the downtown Rotary Club of San Diego. She also serves on the Board of the Academy of Our Lady of Peace Academy. Peg was honored two times as one of the thirty-four “San Diego Women Who Mean Business” in the financial services category. Peggy was also recognized as the “2003 San Diego Woman Business Owner of the Year” by the National Association of Women Business Owners. Peggy is a financial columnist for the San Diego Daily Transcript, and contributes frequently to several national publications, and also appears periodically on national radio and television.

She works with teachers, principals, and CC! liaisons in the Palomar Council PTA to promote Character Counts! at all grade levels through classroom and school-wide activities.

Dr. Raymond E. Ashley Ph.D., Executive Director San Diego Maritime Museum

Dr. Ashley is a long time member of the maritime community who came to his present position in 1996 following a career that includes experience in ship preservation, conservation, shipbuilding, historical scholarship, publication and teaching at the university and community college levels. He received an MA in maritime history and underwater research from East Carolina University, and a Ph.D. in the history of science and technology from Duke University. Dr. Ashley received the 1994 Lothrop Award from The American Neptune for the year’s best contribution to the field of maritime history for The Search for Longitude and is currently co-authoring a book with four other historians on the history of the American Merchant Marine.
Dr. Ashley will be discussing the San Salvador project.

Sports Oddities! Keith Dolan, Educator and Author

G. Keith Dolan was born in Los Angeles and after serving in the navy attended George Pepperdine University and UCLA. His professional career has been in teaching and he has been both a middle and high school principal. Before retiring, he served as a professor at California State University, San Bernardino. He has had a lifetime interest in sports and worked as a sports writer on his high school and college newspapers.
Sports Oddities is a talk about some of the unforeseen events that have occurred during our sports history. The stories are presented in both a factual and humorous manner and are based on the book Sports Almanac-USA written by the speaker. It will be of interest to the listener whether a sports fan or not.

"The State of Senior Centers Across the Country, especially ours" presented by Ms. Siobhan Hancock, Executive Director, Poway Senior Center.
Ms. Hancock has been a San Diego resident for more than twenty years, She obtained her masters degree in Gerontology in 2006 and has worked in eldercare consulting, care management, public speaking, and healthy aging for the past ten years. She is now a gerontologist, who enjoys speaking at conferences about caregivers, eldercare in the workplace, and healthy aging. She hopes to expand the exercise, nutrition, and education programs at Poway Senior Center so that more people may enjoy the benefits of healthy aging. The Poway Senior Center provides programs and services to older adults living in the greater Poway area, including Rancho Penasquitos, Scripps Ranch, Carmel Mountain, Rancho Bernardo and Sabre Springs.

Reserve LtCol--David Inmon--Time Spent In Rraq

He is a Reserve LtCol in the Corps, mobilized for one year tour in Iraq. He served as a traning advisor for the Iraqi Army, living and working with the Iraqi Army. He was directly involved in training Iraqu soldiers, running a large training base and organizing 5 humanitarian missions to a locao community school.

In the afternoon from 4 pm to 7 pm there will be an open house at my home. I have sent you the information before, I am just reminding you. This will be a chance for you to get to know Laurie and Rosie a little better and to welcome our three new members, Kristin, Brandon, and Wanda. In addition I have invited a couple of other potential members.
The important thing is the social aspect of this event. Please come even if you can only stay a little while. No RSVP needed, just come. If you want to bring someone, please do. Norm and I chose the hours of 4-7 so everyone could participate whether they get off work early or later.
