Each year over 200,000 cars are stolen within the state of California and brought into Mexico. In 2007 Kathleen was recognized by NBC 7/39 as an "Inspirational Superstar and Local Hero" for her work with a school for orphans in Kenya. And this is her real story...how she bought a school bus to get the children to school..she built them a grammar school and middle school..where they study from 6am to 7pm. They will return us to the same location at approx. 2:00PM. A box lunch will be served during the tour. To get to Pepper Park you will go west on Bay Marina Drive (24th St) off of I-5. Then make a left on Tidelands. Keep going south on Tidelands past 32nd St and you will run into the park. You can leave your vehicles there. Try to be there 10 or 15 minutes before noon. We make a yearly donation to buy Christmas presents for the patients, many of whom suffer from schizophrenia, bi-polar, Alzheimers and other forms of dementia. Our gifts are the only ones received by many of these patients. Heather is in charge of activities at the facility. December 04, 2007 'Earthquake Mitigation as a Way to Peace ... He brings the greeting of his home District 2120 Italy, the land of Horace's "Carpe Diem" and Pythagoras' school. Similarly as Californians, his people have been learning how to share their gorgeous land and culture with an uncomfortable guest: the earthquakes. His program gives his personal perspective on how modern anti-seismic technology and Rotary service together could make a difference in facing global urban earthquake risk, and successfully export the lessons that we learned in our countries as a message of peace to seismic-prone developing countries. November 27, 2007 Tioga Pass Railroad Car 140 E 12th (Corner of B), National City, CA 91950 Norm Orfall, from Barstow, CA will give us an interesting program on his Tioga Pass railroad car. This car was built in 1959 by Canadian National Railway for use by executives inspecting the railway and entertaining dignitaries and customers. Norm bought it in 1996 and proceeded to completely overhaul it. The car is now available for tours and is being considered by Chula Vista Rotary for the LA Convention next year. More information... These children, through no fault of their own, are removed from their homes and put into foster care or group homes. The volunteer advocates, known as a Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), are everyday citizens appointed by judges to speak for these children who do not always have a voice. Christopher Blin is an international consultant who has visited 96 countries around the world, with work assignments in 12 of those. It’s a compilation of racing history dating back to Barney Oldfield’s barnstorming days around Lakeside’s Lindo Lake to Jimmie Johnson’s Daytona 500 triumph in 2006. In between, it covers sports car races at Torrey Pines, Del Mar and Miramar’s Hour Glass track, the early days of drag racing at Paradise Mesa, San Diego and Carlsbad Raceways, midgets at Balboa Stadium and a host of other events.
