Thanks to Rotary Team Project Co-Leaders Gus Goldau (Mission Bay-Pres Elect Nominee) and Linda Gardner (La Jolla), this much appreciated community improvement project was successfully completed with the cooperation of many Rotarians, Interact members, local businesses, and community volunteers.

Coronado Rotary Supports Superstorm Sandy Relief

The Rotary Club of Coronado is actively involved in relief efforts for residents of Staten Island due to devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy. Rotarian Les Arndt spearheaded the fundraising effort after one of his daughters, who resides in New York, asked him if Rotary could somehow help. Money was quickly raised through the generous donations of individual Coronado Rotarians as well as the creative force of Mary Ann Berta and Rich Brady. These Coronado business owners produced a full-scale Fashion Show with clothing from their stores, La Mer and Brady's Men's Clothing. A total of $14,209 was raised for Superstorm Sandy victims in the New York borough hardest hit by the big storm, Staten Island. President Walt Heinecke and Public Relations Chair, Marilyn Rees, join Mary Ann and Les in the photo.

Bringing Books to the Hannalei Elementary School

Attached are some pictures of our reading session at Hannalei Elementary School on Dec 7, 2012. Readers were Robert Thompson and Robert Bennett of the Rotary club of Vista. Robert Bennett shared his copy of the same book, "Oh Can You Say Dinosaur" on his IPAD after the book was read to all five classes of 2nd graders and that was a real hit with the kids too. Principal, Tracy Zachry, and VUSD Superintendent, Devin Vodicka, looked on during the session. It was awesome! The kids all knew most of the dinosaur names and repeated them back each time. Our goal is to teach the love of reading by reading to 2nd graders and giving each child a book. Vista Rotary purchased 1300 books to be divided between 12 Elementary Schools. The club and district combined to raise $6000.

Gift of Life International

Gift of Life International Founder to visit La Jolla Sunrise Rotary Club.

On Thursday May 3rd, 2012, PDG Robert Donno (Founder and First Chairman of Gift of Life International) will be the guest speaker at the La Jolla Sunrise Rotary Club. In the summer of 1975, 29 year old Robbie had a modest idea to answer a plea for help in order to save the life of a single child in Uganda. With the aid of his Manhasset, New York Rotarians, he brought a little girl from Uganda (Grace Agwaru) to Long Island for heart surgery not available in her country. Today she is a healthy Rotarian and the Gift of Life representative in Uganda. At the time Robbie could not have envisioned that this act would evolve into a worldwide movement responsible for saving the lives of thousands of children around the world. During the last 37 years , this single act of kindness by Rotarians not only saved the life of that little girl but has led to life-saving surgeries for almost 15,000 children. He will be thanking the Sunrise club, the district clubs that have supported this project and District 5340 for their cooperation. It will be an interesting and informative meeting.

RCSDPV 'Fun-raising' Social Night

Once a month, the members of the Rotary Club of San Diego Paradise Valley meet to "party", socialize and just have FUN! We share stories, draw raffles and just sharing random thoughts and ideas. This is also the time we encourage members to bring their friends, families and prospective members to join us. This activity is geared towards knowing each member beyond Rotary and more on the personal level which we hope could bring the club closer to work harder towards one goal--- "Service Above Self"
