The Rotary Club of San Diego Paradise Valley headed by AG Josie Perpetua & PP Gabe Perpetua was presented a plaque of appreciation after the 2013 Medical Mission to the Philippines in February 2013. RCSDPV yearly medical mission to the Philippines helps from 2,000-8,000 patients yearly. Integrity Charter School in National City was the recipient of dictionaries from the Rotary Club of San Diego Paradise Valley. Chaired by Rotarian Daisy Juanitas, the distribution of the dictionaries could have not been in a more perfect time... the 3rd graders were doing a vocabulary class and they were short of dictionaries for the kids. Led by Del Mar-Solana Beach Rotary's very own Charter President Kevin Cahill, District 5340 receives rave reviews and is sought for input to start in other Districts. Our District 5340 is the only one in the United States with a Rotary Model United Nations Program, started by our District's Pathways to Peace Committee nine years ago. The 2013 Conference takes place on April 13 - 14, 2013 at the Joan Kroc Institute For Peace & Justice, University of San Diego Campus. Students and advisors will stay at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Mission Valley on Saturday night. This year we are very fortunate to have the Iraqi Ambassador to the United Nations, Dr. Hamid Al-Bayati, as keynote speaker at Saturday night's banquet. This is the first time we have had a representative from the United Nations as our guest speaker! There will be a limited number of additional tickets for the Saturday evening banquet. We are also pleased to have Brad Barker, President and founder of the Halo Corporation, anti-terrorist experts, as our luncheon/keynote speaker on Saturday, who will give a compelling presentation about the gravity of human trafficking here in San Diego, the United States and the world. Congratulations and Celebrate! February 19, 2013, on the occasion of the 108th Anniversary of Rotary International, Escondido RC, CA, #915, was honored to have a PDG of District 5340 and now RI Trustee Steve Brown and Rotarian Major Donor Jill Campbell to assist us providing special Thanks to our donors to The Rotary Foundation and special congratulations to 26 recipients of Paul Harris Fellow recognition and 6 Paul Harris Society members for continued support of Rotary's humanitarian efforts. This year Escondido Rotarians supported T R F with over $9,500 to TRF Annual Program Fund and In memoriam to our beloved Rotarian Jack Campbell, over $10,000 to TRF Polio Plus; as well as, over $7,000 to ARC in response to Super Storm Sandy. A recent literacy project by the Rotary Club of Vista. The club and district combined to raise $6000. Our goal is to teach the love of reading by reading to 2nd graders and giving each child a book. Vista Rotary & District 5340 purchased 1300 books to be divided between 12 Elementary Schools. Volunteers will read the book in assemblies, then present each student with their own book. 2012 Scholarship Winners from The Rotary Club of Vista. Some of this year's winners of scholarships from The Rotary Club of Vista are pictured: L to R Ross Valeikas, Western Kramer, Abigail Rose Gibson, Jocelyn Ramirez, Miguel Martinez with incoming Vista Rotary President Paula White. The Rotary Club of Mission Bay (D-5340)and Club Rotario de Cabo San Lucas (D-4100) formed a DDF partnership to bring free oral surgery services to the low-income children of Cabo. Surgeons and medical support volunteers from Michigan, Costa Rica, and Rotary Clubs of Mission Bay, Carlsbad, and Armed Forces Eclub teamed up with Cabo area students and Rotarian doctors to identify and begin medical procedures for these most needy children. The program "Cabo Sonrisas" is under the direction of Rotarian Dr. Moses (Pres-Smiles International Foundation) and locally coordinated by Rotarian Dr. Roberto Leon (Cirugia de Cabeza y Cuello Surgery), who lives and has a practice in Cabo San Lucas. The launch of the Cabo Sonrisas Program was very successful, interviewing 20 patients and conducting one reconstructive oral surgery. Return trips are scheduled for October and April 2012-13 to continue the Cabo Sonrisas Program. The photo includes Dr Moses (second to left of RI Symbol), his wife, Maribel (second from the right and kneeling), and Dr Michael McQuary (below RI Symbol and wearing a Rotarians at Work t-shirt in solidarity with those at home, who were working on community projects).
Kingsmen Interact of National City Middle School is the 1st Interact Club sponsored by RCSDPV. Currently the club has 40 motivated members and is going to embark their first community beautification project next month of April.
Once a month, the members of the Rotary Club of San Diego Paradise Valley meet to "party", socialize and just have FUN! We share stories, draw raffles and just sharing random thoughts and ideas. This is also the time we encourage members to bring their friends, families and prospective members to join us. This activity is geared towards knowing each member beyond Rotary and more on the personal level which we hope could bring the club closer to work harder towards one goal--- "Service Above Self" |
