2011-12 Archives
Our family reunion will be an experience like no other. Because there's nothing like the fellowship you experience at a Rotary event. And there will never again be an event like District 5340 partying on its 100th birthday. This is the chance you've been waiting for. Spend a weekend with old friends, and make a bunch of new ones as we honor a century of service. Global Grant Scholar Monica Kinyua from Kenya was greeted August 4th 2011 at the airport by District Governor Larry Sundram, District Foundation Chair PDG Pam Russell, Scholar Chair Jean Kerr and Host Counselor Janice Kurth. Monica will be studying at USD at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice.
Monica Ingarevalo, from Ecuador who will study at the University of San Diego, Peace & Justice Studies Center, 2011-12. She is from Guayaquil and sponsored by Cerro Azul Rotary. La Mesa Sunrise is the Host Club. Monica was greeted by several Rotarians with balloons and hugs upon her arrival Wednesday evening, August 17. Jean Kerr, District Scholar Coordinator, Janice Kurth, Chief Assistant Governor, LMSR President Manuela Bump-Murillo, Host Counselor David Ballesteros.
On June 21, 2011, Host Counselor Bill Pogue, District Foundation Chair Pam Russell and almost District Governor Larry Sundram greet our first Inbound Global Grant Scholar of the new Rotary Year, Atsushi Umemura and his wife Shiori, along with their three boys, Kyotaro, age 9, Asahi, age 6 and Hiromi, age 4. He is from District 2650 in Japan and will be studying at the University of California San Diego for the next two years. Welcome to District 5340!
During Governor Larry's official visit to the Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellowship was awarded to Kate Voeller, 15-month old granddaughter of DGN Carl Kruse. This represents the sixth PHF award to Carl's family and makes it a 100% Paul Harris Family!
On Monday 18 April, 2011, District 5340 held a TRF Spring Donor Celebration luncheon. All Major Donors, Paul Harris Society Members and Bequest Society Members were invited. It was held at the beautiful University of San Diego Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice. Retired Career Ambassador Jeffrey Davidow gave a fascinating speech about what is happening today in South America and Mexico. At the luncheon we also recognized Bonnie Lentz as a Major Donor Level 2, Bob & Jane Franz as Major Donors Level 1, Ron Kohl and Mike & Arlene Bardin as Bequest Society Members and Richard Barron and John & Donna Boyce as Paul Harris Society Members. |
