Thank you to the 20 Rotarians who volunteered their time to attend the 7th Annual LEAD Conference over the October 24-25 weekend. 134 eighth grade students attended the conference where they were challenged to act with integrity, accept themselves and have a positive self-image, and set high goals for their future. Students and Rotarians were inspired by the following four interesting and entertaining presenters
 
Scott Greenberg has a BA from UCLA, is a renowned national speaker, has written three books on leadership, and is a contributing author to “Chicken Soup for the College Soul.” Scott inspires students to manage the thoughts and emotions that impact everything they do. Scott gives students tools to optimize their mindset, make better decisions, enhance relationships for maximum performance, and lead others to do the same.
 
Brodie Kaster – Ramona HS ASB President, BA from UCSD, teacher at Francis Parker. Brodie’s passion for education and dance inspires students to have active and creative minds, a sense of understanding and compassion for others, to overcome adversity, and the courage to act upon their beliefs. Brodie brings out the dynamic leadership skills in individuals and allows them to be respectful, benevolent citizens.
 
Sade Burrell is a 2015 MSW candidate at USC. She grew up in the foster care system. At 15, Sade decided that she would ignore low expectations and achieve excellence. Sade has been recognized for her efforts to eliminate child abuse and she works diligently to inspire and aid underprivileged youth to obtain a higher education. Sade transforms and inspires others to reach their greatest potential by living a solution focused life.
 
Torrey Mercer grew up in Solana Beach and has her BA from UC Irvine. Torrey has inspired thousands of K-12 students through The Pledge Tour which incorporates her inspiration story and addresses bullying prevention, kindness, embracing diversity, giving back to the community, and pursuing successful career paths. Torrey inspires students to take “the pledge” to be kinder, bully-free, and accepting of their peers.
