Sherrie Suanico has been a member of Rotary for just a month and has already experienced her "Rotary Moment" during her first trip to the November Thousand Smiles Clinic in Baja Mexico. The newest member of Old Mission Rotary jumped right in to assist dentists and nurses as they treated children; some with appalling dental conditions.

The Thousand Smiles Foundation is dedicated to providing free maxillo-facial surgeries and dental work to underprivileged children in Mexico who suffer from facial deformities such as cleft lip and palate. The Foundation owns a modern dental clinic in Ensenada and its clinics are completely staffed by volunteers, mostly from The United States and México.

Thousand Smiles is a Rotary International project and has been the recipient of several grants from The Rotary Foundation and individual Rotary Clubs. Its Board of Directors now consists of Rotarians from California Rotary District 5340 and California District 5330 and NW Mexico Rotary District 4110. Four two-day clinics are held yearly on the first Friday and Saturday of February, May, August and November.
