Millions For HOPE is our District’s unique initiative to raise awareness by fellow Rotarians to provide a gift to The Rotary Foundation as a bequest.  This article highlights a simple and cost effective option to consider: using life insurance to fund good around the globe.

As we age, our life circumstances change and evolve.  In our youth, we may have been motivated to purchase life insurance to ensure support for young children, or to relieve the burden of mortgage payments for a surviving spouse.  In the course of a working career we generally accrue retirement savings.  As we age, the passing of friends and family may provide us with an inheritance.   These changing circumstances must be monitored, including our provisions for a surviving spouse and heirs.

What about that life insurance policy?  Are the children grown and self-supporting?  Is the mortgage payment now a manageable sum, or is the balanced owed on that mortgage significantly diminished relative to the market value of your home?  If starting out today, is life insurance something you would still purchase?  If the answer to that question has changed, then your provision for the named beneficiary may have changed as well.  Consultation with professional advisers that understand your circumstances is a prudent first step before changing policy terms or beneficiaries, but these considerations do evolve, and perhaps naming The Rotary Foundation in whole or part beneficiary now makes sense for you.
