Last Thursday, the 18th of January, District 5340 welcomed 135 Rotary International members to come together to assemble "comfort kits" to support the American Red Cross of San Diego/Imperial Counties.  This was the first event of its kind for an RI International Assembly.  Coordinated for the Partners of District Governor Elects to provide a hands-on opportunity to participate in an RI community service event.  Amongst the crowd were also partners of past, current, and future RI presidents.

Chaired by Assistant Governor and San Diego Rotary - Club 33 member, John Neuhart, the event helped create 2000 emergency kits which are given in time of need to victims of fires, flood and earthquakes.  The event raised $8,000 and accumulated over 400 volunteer hours and was a huge success; as on of the volunteers expressed her appreciation, saying, "I wouldn't have wanted to spend my afternoon any other way.  Thank you for this opportunity to help others!"  San Diego Rotary Club wants to thank the Red Cross, Liberty Station Conference Center, Sodexo catering and all of the participant volunteers.
